Santa Barbara Police investigate fatal hit and run

KEYT

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (KEYT) – Santa Barbara Police are investigating a fatal hit and run that killed a woman just after 10:00 p.m. Friday.

An SBPD officer witnessed a reckless driver at the 300 block of West Carrillo Street and attempted a traffic stop before deeming the pursuit too dangerous due to the speeding driver.

A witness later tracked down the same SBPD officer regarding a pedestrian hit and run crash at the crosswalk of the northbound side of Highway 101 at the 400 block of West Mission Street.

The SBPD officer administered aid before requesting additional medical addition. Paramedics later took the injured woman to Cottage Hospital where she sadly passed away from her injuries.

SBPD officers determined the same car involved in the failed traffic stop hit and killed the woman in the subsequent crash.

SBPD officers requested aid from the California Highway Patrol and the investigation remains ongoing.
