Man dies after kayak flips over at Montaña de Oro State Park

SAN LUIS OBISPO COUNTY, Calif. (KEYT) - A man died Saturday after his kayak flipped over in the water at Montaña de Oro State Park, according to the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Office.

Dispatchers received a call for a kayaker in distress around 10:20 a.m. Witnesses said that waves flipped the kayak over and it appeared the man's life vest slipped off his body, per a news release.

The man was located in the water and pulled to shore where first responders performed CPR. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The man's identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. The Sheriff's Office, CA State Parks, U.S. Coast Guard and Cal Fire responded to the incident.
