Ralph Sutter dies after kayak flips over at Montaña de Oro State Park

SAN LUIS OBISPO COUNTY, Calif. (KEYT) - Ralph Sutter, 78, from Arroyo Grande, died Saturday after his kayak flipped over in the water at Montaña de Oro State Park, according to the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Office.

Dispatchers received a call for a kayaker in distress around 10:20 a.m. Witnesses said that waves flipped the kayak over and it appeared Sutter's life vest slipped off his body, per a news release.

Sutter was located in the water and pulled to shore, where first responders performed CPR. Sutter was pronounced dead at the scene.

Sutter's next of kin have been notified. The Sheriff's Office, CA State Parks, U.S. Coast Guard and Cal Fire responded to the incident.
