Santa Maria school officials ask for patience during COVID-19 crisis

SANTA MARIA, Calif. - The Santa Maria Joint Union High School District Board of Education sent out a notice to all district parents, students and staff thanking everyone for their "cooperation, patience, and flexibility" during this health emergency.

The letter, sent out in both English and Spanish, explains how school officials are working through the crisis to guide the district as schools remain closed until at least the end of the current school year.

Governor Newsom's stay-at-home order means that all California schools will not open through June and maybe longer. The letter goes on to outline the stay-at-home rules only allow people to leave for necessities such as food, to care for a friend or relative, get healthcare and go to work if your job is deemed essential.

The district is offering resources on everything from Remote Learning Resources, Tech Hotlines, Free Meal Information, Facts and Preventive Measures for COVID-19, and other resources for students, parents, and staff on its district website.

"Even though our school facilities are closed for the remainder of the school year, our commitment to distance learning continues. Plans for Semester 2 grading/credits have been developed and posted on the website. Information on graduations and other end-ofyear events will be sent out soon," said district officials.
