Buellton Library staff to begin packing library collection up this week
BUELLTON, Calif. – It’s moving day at the Buellton Library, a valley landmark for roughly 50 years.
"Crazy insanity … movement … it’s so good to finally see movement happening," said President Holly Sierra of Friends of the Buellton Library.
While the beloved library remains closed, crews are putting the entire library collection into hundreds of boxes stored inside a giant pod.
The library’s new home will be the historic Willemsen at 202 Dairyland Road.
And the old library will become a senior center.
"We’re going to pick up a lot of space this is necessary to serve seniors and veterans community here. we’re also going to pick up a beautiful, beautiful new library facility and the whole community are excited," said city manager Scott Wolfe of Buellton.
“Yeah, getting a little crowded over there and then additional space you know we have a lot more seniors up here in Buellton these days," said Mayor David King of Buellton.
As soon as the library supplies have been moved completely out, construction of the building will begin.
"We can make people feel good when they come in we are not crowding … we have room and space and the City of Buellton made that happen," said CEO Pam Gnekow of Santa Ynez Valley Community Outreach.
“To make it very modern library with spaces for people to use computers all our bookshelves and everything we’re gonna go over there," said King.
The library’s collection of materials is not visible in the online catalog.
But you can access online downloads and streams.
“In the end we get a new library we get a beautiful library overlooking Santa Ynez Mountains.
While the Buellton Library is closed, Wolfe suggests residents visit the Solvang Library or the Goleta Valley Library.
