Santa Maria man dies following three-vehicle collision on Highway 101 Wednesday

SANTA MARIA, Calif. – Ronald Dickerson of Santa Maria died following a three-vehicle collision on Highway 101 near Union Valley Parkway on Wednesday.

On May 22, around 12:15 p.m., the 80-year-old Santa Maria resident was driving southbound in his 2007 Honda Civic near Union Valley Parkway when he began to approach stopped traffic stated California Highway Patrol-Santa Maria Area (CHP) in a press release about the fatal collision.

For still unknown reasons, the Honda did not slow down and hit the back of a Dodge Durango which then crashed into a third vehicle, a 1996 Dodge 2500 pickup truck, detailed the CHP.

Arriving emergency personnel treated Dickerson as well as two passengers in the Dodge Durango before all three were transported to Maria Medical Regional Center explained the CHP.

According to CHP, the 80-year-old driver later died from his injuries sustained during the collision while at the hospital.

The two passengers of the Dodge Durango who were also treated for their injuries were released after their medical treatment shared the CHP.

Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Coroner's Bureau identified Ronald Dickerson as the man who died from his injuries sustained during the collision on May 23, 2024.
