18 local high school students awarded scholarships by Santa Maria Breakfast Rotary Club

SANTA MARIA, Calif. – The Rotary Club of Santa Maria Breakfast awarded 18 local high school students scholarships, totaling $27,000.
"We once again found that the quality of applicants we received this year was quite strong," said Mike Gibson, a member of the Santa Maria Breakfast Rotary scholarship committee.
"With 68 applications to consider, the need is still great and it was difficult making the selections. While we were happy to give out 18 scholarships, we truly wish we had more dollars to award."
The scholarships range from $500 to $2,000, and the students were all seniors from local high schools, including St. Joseph High School, Pioneer Valley High School, Santa Maria High School, and Righetti High School, among others.
Three students were awarded the $1,000 Vocational Scholarship, four students were awarded a $500 Hancock College Bound Student Scholarship that is renewable in year two at the college, two students were awarded a $2,000 Santa Maria Breakfast Rotary Memorial Scholarship, and nine students were awarded a $2,000 Santa Maria Breakfast Rotary Support Award scholarship.
The rotary club also established an endowment at Cal Poly to award $1,000 annually to an architecture student in memory of Jared and Davie Hurley.
