SANTA MARIA, Calif. - Allan Hancock College has canceled its annual Frightmare Forest Halloween attraction.

The annual Halloween event, which is put on by the men's basketball program, typically brings large crowds to Santa Maria to navigate the haunted maze.

Hancock men’s basketball coach Tyson Aye said the team explored other options for Halloween but decided it was best to cancel this year's event.

“After a lot of thoughtful discussions and exploration of possible alternatives to this event, we decided that the best and most responsible course of action is to cancel Frightmare Forest for this year,” Aye said. “While we know that our players and residents look forward to this event each Halloween, making sure we are doing our part to keep the community safe and healthy must take precedence.”

The Frightmare Forest is typically held every year. Last year's event featured a three-acre haunted maze. All proceeds from the event benefit the Allan Hancock men's basketball program.
