Inmate injured in fight at Lompoc prison
LOMPOC, Calif. - An inmate suffered minor injuries after a fight broke out at the United States Penitentiary in Lompoc Thursday morning.
At around 10:30 a.m., multiple inmates were seen fighting at the prison. Prison staff secured the scene and were able to break up the fight.
The inmates were secured in their housing units and the prison was placed on a limited operational status, according to a press release from the Federal Bureau of Prisons.
One inmate suffered minor injuries that required transportation off the prison property. No staff or other inmates were injured.
An internal investigation into the circumstances of the fight is underway.
The United States Penitentiary in Lompoc is a medium-security prison in Lompoc. There are currently 1,004 male inmates at the facility.
