Santa Maria police arrest man for attempted robbery, possession of firearm on school campus

SANTA MARIA, Calif. - Santa Maria police were called to Morrison Avenue and Thornburg Street Tuesday on a report of a person in possession of a handgun. Police were able to identify 18-year-old Jacob Aceves along with another suspect with him.

Before officers could arrest Aceves, he and the other suspect immediately ran from Thornburg Street onto the Sanata Maria High School campus. Several students were on campus at the time.

Officers set a perimeter around the school's campus in an attempt to catch the fleeing suspects. Officers later arrested Aceves and found a loaded handgun next to a classroom. Aceves was arrested for various weapons violations.

Hours before the arrest, Aceves was identified as a wanted suspect for an attempt robbery. Aceves approached a male juvenile and demanded money. The juvenile was able to escape Aceves and ran for help.

Aceves was transported to the Santa Barbara County jail for attempted robbery and various weapons violations, including possession of a loaded handgun on a school campus. His bail is set at $50,000 dollars.
