Man fatally shot Friday near Bohnett Park in Santa Barbara identified as Luis Gerardo Terrazas

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (KEYT) – Your News Channel has been able to confirm Monday that the person shot and killed Friday near Bohnett Park in Santa Barbara is Luis Gerardo Terrazas.
Terrazas' family and government officials were able to confirm his identity Monday.

The Santa Barbara Police Department is still investigating the fatal shooting and has not submitted a case at this point in their investigation to local prosecutors shared the Santa Barbara County District Attorney's Office.
According to the Santa Barbara County District Attorney's Office, Terrazas was facing a charge of assault with a deadly weapon in connection with a stabbing on State Street last summer and his passing will not impact any other cases connected to the fatal stabbing.
Terrazas pled not guilty during his arraignment on the assault charge.
Originally, he was charged with attempted murder as well as a gang enhancement but those were later downgraded to a lesser charge of assault likely to cause great bodily injury and the enhancement was completely dropped before he entered his plea in early September of last year.
Your News Channel reached out Terrazas' defense attorney in that assault case for more information and his response will be added to this article when it is received.
