SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The Below Market Workforce Housing on State Street is holding a grand opening of 14 “below market rate” residential studio apartments for the local workforce in Santa Barbara on Friday.

The Housing Authority’s innovative Workforce Housing Program is designed to address the affordable housing needs of the community’s low to moderate income workforce.

The focus of the program is to provide affordable housing, so more people can live where they work in Santa Barbara.

Program directors said they believe this approach benefits those who can keep transportation and other costs to a minimum.

The new housing units aim to allow residents to have more time to spend with family, education, or career development.

Applications have already been accepted and closed for this property.

New residents will be moving into their studios on Dec. 20.
