New sober living house opens in Goleta

GOLETA, Calif. – Tucked in a suburb of Goleta, Cali-House hopes to offer a home to people recovering from addiction.

Kyle Smith, Program Director at Cali-House, got sober from drugs and alcohol about six years ago and has cultivated a passion for helping others through recovery. Smith said he hopes to pass on his passion to all those who choose to stay.

"Our main goal is to show people that you can be sober and still enjoy your life. It is not over," said Smith. "The fun is not over. I've had more fun in sobriety then I ever have before. You don't have to be a square, you don't have to be a dork. You can speak your mind, and learn to embrace who you are. That's what we want to do here."

Smith and his business partner Liam Fealy held an open house on Saturday. The house offers eight full beds with new memory foam mattresses. Rent for a bed ranges between $1,500 to $2k a month. A clean drug test and a sponsor are the only requirements to apply.

Smith's goal for the house is to provide a tailor made residential housing with staff on-hand to maintain a structured environment to make sure each guest stays on top of their recovery.

The Cali-House also offers guests a newly remodeled kitchen, outdoor laundry room, internet, a large private backyard with a BBQ & grilling area, and a fire pit.
