U. S. Coast Guard conducting rescue operations for overboard cargo ship crew member

SANTA BARBARA CHANNEL, Calif. – The U. S. Coast Guard (USCG) is currently searching for a person that fell overboard from a bulk carrier vessel, the African Cardinal, about 14 miles off the coast of Point Conception.

At 5 a.m. Tuesday morning, watchstanders with USCG Sector Los Angeles - Long Beach Command Center received the call of a person overboard and immediately issued an Urgent Marine Information Broadcast via VHF channel 16 detail a USCG press release of the incident.

The USCG launched a MH-65 Dolphin helicopter rescue crew from Forward Operating Base Point Mugu, a small boat crew from USCG Station Channel Islands, and diverted the USCG Cutter Robert Ward to search the area.
