Speranza Marie, sunken 60ft fishing boat, removed from Santa Cruz Island
SANTA BARBARA COUNTY, Caif. – Crews removed the Speranza Marie, a 60ft fishing boat, from Santa Cruz Island early morning Thursday.
The vessel went down in the Chinese Harbor on Dec. 15, 2022.
Aboard the vessel were six crew members, all rescued without injury.
Channel Islands National Park Service said the boat also had 1000 gallons of diesel fuel, an unknown amount of hydraulic fluid and 16,000 pounds of squid, which crews worked to salvage.
On Dec. 27, the Speranza Marie broke from anchorage and ran aground again due to significant swells.
Crews were finally able to remove the vessel this month.
