State Parks begin shoring project along Carpinteria Creek due to recent storms

CARPINTERIA, Calif. – California State Parks will use an emergency permit to repair portions of the bank of Carpinteria Creek near the end of 6th Street in Carpinteria due to recent rainstorm damage.

State Parks expects this construction to limit erosion of the creek bank that poses a risk for buildings and public infrastructure in the area, notably the nearby waste water treatment plant.

The work is expected to start on Jan. 15 and last until Jan. 17 and involves the placement of around 10,000 cubic yards of 2' to 4' diameter rock to shore up about 250 feet of creek bank.

For safety purposes, the public will not be allowed to park in the 5000 block of 6th Street during the shoring project between Jan. 15 and Jan. 17.
