Police search for young shooting suspects near San Pascual St. on Santa Barbara’s west side

Search for teens following possible gunfire comes up empty on Westside

SANTA BARBARA COUNTY, Calif. – More than 20 officers and other law enforcement searched the west side of Santa Barbara with K-9 and air support for potential shooting suspects on Monday evening, according to the Santa Barbara Police Department.

SBPD sent out an alert text to subscribers, asking the public to look out for two male juveniles who fled on-foot from the Santa Barbara Police Department in the 900-block of San Pascual.

The text said "one suspect is wearing a black checkered shirt and black pants and the second suspect is wearing a gray sweatshirt and gray sweatpants," and asked the public to call 911 if they see someone matching the description.

Police said multiple law enforcement units responded to the scene following reports of a possible drive-by shooting on Monday after 3 p.m.

The search closed off the corner of San Pascual St, Carillo St, Canon Perdido and Orange Ave for about an hour, and police said they advised trains to stop in case the suspects ran towards the tracks.

Police said trains were stopped around the area for a period of time, disrupting all routes as law enforcement searched the tracks.

The streets were re-opened just after 5 p.m., but police have not yet confirmed what the two juveniles are wanted for or where they are currently searching.

It is unclear if this is a gang-related incident.

The story is ongoing and will be updated as more information comes into the newsroom.
