Carpinteria updating their COVID mask signs downtown

CARPINTERIA, Calif. — Downtown Carpinteria is getting updated signage to remind people to wear their masks.

The city is putting up the new signs to replace those that were put up in May or others that were damaged in last weekend’s storm.

Linda Carlson and Georgann Crane were visiting Carpinteria from San Bernardino County.

Carlson said about a nearby sign, "It's bright. It has nice colors. It looks pretty good."

Crane added, "It's cute. It's cute yeah."

While the city changed from blue signs to yellow signs, the goal is the same, get people to wear a mask properly while downtown. And make sure visitors know the rules too.

Mimi Audelo is the Carpinteria program manager. She said, "We wanted to make sure they had the same message we give our community folks on what's important to stay safe during this COVID-19 pandemic."

Huntington Beach visitor David Mollica enjoyed seeing the signs in Carpinteria. "I like it. I think it's important the way that we're going. It seems that things are ramping up a little bit. And as far as people catching this again."

There are three types of new signs, which are in English and Spanish. They say "We wear masks for you, for me", "In Carpinteria respect is spelled M-A-S-K" and "Thank you for covering your mouth and nose."

The signs will line the downtown corridor, mainly on Linden Avenue. Each sign will be in English and Spanish and they will be set up along the sidewalks in A-frame signs.

Carpinteria city leaders said educational signs have been downtown since May. While new ones were added, some older ones are still out and were cleaned off after last weekend's storm.
