Injured paraglider rescued by Santa Barbara County Fire helicopter at Montecito Peak

Santa Barbara County Fire located and rescued a downed paraglider at Montecito Peak.

SANTA BARBARA COUNTY, Calif. - Santa Barbara County Firefighters rescued a downed paraglider who had sustained injuries at Montecito Peak Sunday morning.

The male paraglider went down around 11:43 a.m. Santa Barbara County and City firefighters as well as Santa Barbara Search and Rescue and Los Padres National Forest personnel responded to the incident.

The paraglider activated an emergency locator beacon which signaled his location to first responders.

Santa Barbara County Fire then deployed Copter 308 which was carrying paramedics to the injured paraglider. When it arrived, firefighters hoisted the paraglider onto the helicopter.

Paramedics found the paraglider had sustained moderate injuries from the crash.

The patient was transported to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital for further treatment of his injuries.
