San Luis Obispo Airport offers new support app for passengers with visual impairments

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – The San Luis Obispo County Regional Airport added a new service to support visually impaired travelers.

Aira is a mobile app that assists passengers with limited or no vision move through crowds, avoid obstacles, find their gate, use self-service kiosks, and navigate through Transportation Security Administration (TSA) checkpoints.

CEO of Aira, Troy Otillio said, “Access to information is a human right, and this partnership unlocks independence on their own terms for blind and low vision travelers. I want to applaud San Luis Obispo County Regional Airport for their outstanding commitment to accessibility and inclusion.”

The mobile app connects users with professional visual interpreters who use live-streamed video to translate visual information into descriptive audio.

While the app requires a monthly subscription for personal use, inside of the Airport, the app and its services will be free.
