Cal Poly cancels all Monday and Tuesday classes amid storm
SAN LUIS OBISPO COUNTY, Calif. – Due to the storm, Cal Poly has now cancelled all Monday and Tuesday classes, both in-person and virtual, as well as all campus activities.
"Campus will only be open to essential operations," said the university. "Essential operations are: Food Services, Housing, Police and Emergency Services, Facilities and Infrastructure, Healthcare and Counseling, Agricultural Care and Facilities, IT Services and Communications, Leadership, Procurement and Contracts, Research. (Some essential areas may be closed if it is unsafe for community members to travel.)"
Cal Poly said that non-essential operations will remain closed on Tuesday. "If you’re not part of an essential operation, please contact your supervisor and determine appropriate direction for your work status."
"We are experiencing a time of emergency, and your safety is our upmost priority. All campus community members are strongly urged to exercise abundant caution to help keep themselves and others out of harm’s way. Please avoid trails and creeks, and stay off roads whenever possible — both to avoid flooded areas and to ensure that emergency services have necessary access. Any displaced campus community members and local residents can find assistance at the Performing Arts Center through 5 p.m. Tuesday."
Cal Poly also said that the add-drop date will be extended for students, and more information will be shared with students separately.
The Monday classes were cancelled in an emergency alert sent to students and staff in the morning.
"Due to storm conditions, all in-person and virtual classes have been canceled effective with this alert," wrote Cal Poly. "All non-essential functions will be closed. Essential operations will continue."
