SLO Police Det. Luca Benedetti, killed in line of duty, to be laid to rest
SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - Final respects will be paid today in San Luis Obispo in honor of SLOPD Detective Luca Benedetti. Benedetti, 37, was shot and killed May 10 while serving a search warrant at an apartment on the south side of San Luis Obispo.
He was among several city police officers who forced their way into the apartment to serve the warrant and were met with gunfire from the shooting suspect inside who also died at the scene.
Fellow SLOPD Officer Steve Orozco was wounded in the shooting and is now recovering from his injuries.
There’s been a tremendous outpouring of community support and from local public safety agencies for Detective Benedetti, his family and the San Luis Obispo Police Department. That’s expected to be seen again today for services for Detective Benedetti at the Cal Poly Performing Arts Center followed by a motorcade procession from San Luis Obispo to Paso Robles. The service starts at 10 a.m.
Thursday, May 20, drivers should expect delays and rolling closures on US 101 N/B from San Luis Obispo through Paso Robles.
