San Luis Obispo water main to receive emergency repairs
SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - City staff found a small leak in a 24-inch water main near Highland Drive on Cal Poly's campus and are planning to make repairs on Sunday.
SLO City Communications said the leak was found during routine water infrastructure maintenance on Saturday.
City crews and a local contractor are expected to work around-the-clock from 6 p.m. on Sunday to early Monday morning to fix the leak.
In order to make their repairs, the City said that the water main and one of the City and Cal Poly’s largest water storage tanks will be temporarily taken out of service.
During this time, residents may experience a decrease in water pressure and cloudy or discolored water which is a result of naturally occurring minerals being disturbed in the pipes by the repairs.
The City said the discolored water is safe to drink and should become clear if left running for a few minutes.
During the repair times, the City asks that the community conserve water as much as possible and avoid outdoor irrigation.
The City apologizes for the inconvenience and will provide updates as soon as more information is available. To stay up-to-date with the repairs, visit their website here.
