Pink Week puts spotlight on Planned Parenthood supporters
SANTA BARBARA, Calif.- Pink Week has just begun and small businesses and vendors are offering pink drinks and more to benefit Planned Parenthood California Central Coast.
Businesses in Ventura, Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties are taking part.
La Lief Wines in Santa Barbara's Funk Zone is going with the pink theme by donating ten percent of Pink Rose Wine sales between July 17-23 to Planned Parenthood.
"I think people really want to have a fun way to help Planned Parenthood, you drink wine and help people," said tasting room associate Ahtziri Hernandez.
The bartender at Bettina on Coast Village Road will be serving up a pink cocktails to help Planned Parenthood starting Tuesday.
There are also restaurants including Lark and La Paloma that are donating designated salad sales to Planned Parenthood.
For those with a sweet took Chocolate Maya is donating 10 percent of all chocolate sales.
Tristin Tracy of Tristin Tracy Photography in Santa Barbara said she will share 20 percent of a full session fee to anyone who books a photography appointment this week.
"I had a session with someone who works there, and Planned Parenthood has always been near and dear to my heart, so I was happy to help," said Tracy.
Planned Parenthood staff said they are seeing supporters take a stand at a time when reproductive rights vary from state to state.
"Since the Dobbs decision last year that overturned nearly 50 years of precedent with Roe v. Wade we have seen a tremendous outpouring in our community for support of planned parenthood and reproductive health care we have felt that here with pink wink, " said Luz Reyes-Martin.
Reyes-Martin serves as Planned Parenthood's Vice President of Community Engagement.
But not everyone wants to participate.
Caroline Abate is likely to avoid businesses helping Planned Parenthood.
"To those who would support abortion in this way I would just ask you to please think very carefully about the details of exactly what you are supporting, " said Abate, " Because what we should be doing as a society is supporting the life of the unborn child. "
Despite the debate over abortion Planned Parenthood has six busy health centers along the coast.
The nonprofit says more than 31,000 people received care through Planned Parenthood Central Coast Health Centers in the past year.
