Super Bowl business expected to be strong at Central Coast bars and restaurants
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The Super Bowl may be more than just a big football game for the teams and their fans. For some bar and restaurant owners, it is one of the most profitable days of the year.
They spend days promoting their food and drink specials, deciding on the number of TVs they will have showing the game, and adding decorations.
Around the country, analysts say the viewership will be in excess of 112 million Americans.
Advertisers will spend $359 million on TV ads.
Many Central Coast bars already have Super Bowl banners, flags and inflatable players in place.
At O'Malley's Duane Jeter was behind the bar saying, " a lot of people will come in early to get their spots and celebrate and enjoy the camaraderie with everybody that has been coming in from week to week."
He says O'Malley's will have 30 screens showing the game. Two will be drop-down full projection screens.
Across the street at Institution Ale, Xander Doyle says he has seen it, " super busy. The last couple of games we had a full house. We have a lot of space here. There's not a lot of spots on State Street with this much space."
Sandbar and Baja Sharkee's have colored cards with a line up of food and drink specials. One of the offers is for unlimited beverages for a special price.
Many football fans said they would at house parties and avoid the crowded sports bars. But that also means a trip to the grocery store before the game - another business boost.
"Yeah we are going to a house party and we are going to have a lot of food and drinks, " said Kevin Coughlon a football fan visiting from Fresno.
Dan Paglioti, a former athlete, plans to watch it in the comfort of his home without a lot of distractions. "I love watching the Super Bowl by myself. That is what I am going to do."
