SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - After an outcry by thousands of people, the Santa Barbara City Council has begun creating a Civilian Police Commission.

At Tuesday's City Council meeting, there will be discussion of the size, cost and focus of the commission.

The framework calls for 13 members, chosen by the council who have specific life experiences, professional skills, and community standing to be on the panel.

The cost of running the commission, meetings, and staff support have not been calculated.

This action comes after recent rallies with messages to defund the police, create an oversight commission and discontinue efforts to build a new police command headquarters.
