12 Flock Cameras Removed, Stolen, Vandalized in Santa Barbara

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (KEYT) – The camera systems that detect license plates and vehicles passing by, is not only gone in Santa Barbara, but it has become part of a criminal investigation.

The City of Santa Barbara did not renew the contract with the Flock camera system at the end of August.   

In early September, the City Council was told the 12 camera system would be gone in two weeks.

The police department says the cameras have now been removed by Flock, and the city but an unknown number in that group were stolen.

The exact number that were stolen or vandalized has not been revealed due to the investigation.

No remaining cameras are in place in the city under this specific type of license plate reader system, although cameras that read license plates are in use in parking lots to charge drivers going in and out.
