Oxnard man released from hospital, arrested for allegedly stabbing wife to death

OXNARD, Calif. - An Oxnard man was released from the hospital Monday afternoon and subsequently arrested in connection to the fatal stabbing of his wife on Friday.

Police said it happened around 9:55 p.m. Friday night. They were dispatched to the 1100 block of West Hemlock Street where they found 27-year-old Karla Cabrera suffering from fatal stab wounds.

She was transported to the hospital where she was determined to have died from her injuries.

Officers said they were told Cabrera's husband had been the one who stabbed her inside her home. He was found hiding under a car in a nearby alley suffering from multiple self-inflicted stab wounds and making suicidal statements.

The man was treated at the scene and transported to the hospital.

Police said the man was released from the hospital Monday afternoon and immediately arrested and transported to Ventura County Jail for processing.

He will be arraigned on Wednesday in Ventura County Superior Court.

The police department said this was the sixth homicide in Oxnard this year. The fifth, also a stabbing, occurred just days before on Cypress Road.

Investigators urge anyone who may have heard or seen anything connected to this stabbing to contact Detective Jeff Kay at 805-385-8174 or call the police department at 805-385-7600 or online.
