Police identify man killed in Santa Maria shooting

SANTA MARIA, Calif. - A 19-year-old Guadalupe man has been identified by police as the man shot and killed in Santa Maria early Sunday morning.

Mario Angel Merino Gonzalez was found lying in the street in the area of North Lincoln and West Mill streets. Police responded to the area around 2 a.m. Sunday morning and found Gonzalez suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said the shooting was a result of an argument among a group of people. During the altercation, a gun was pulled and Gonzalez was shot.

Police said they have no information about the shooter at this time. Evidence suggests the shooting may have been gang-related, police said.
