One man killed in early morning shooting in Santa Maria

SANTA MARIA, Calif. - Santa Maria police are investigating a shooting that left one man dead early Sunday morning.

The shooting occurred around 2:06 a.m. in the area of North Lincoln and West Mill Streets.

Officers responded to the area and located a man lying in the middle of the street with apparent gunshot wounds. The man was ultimately pronounced dead at the scene.

So far, the police department's investigation has determined the man was involved in a verbal argument with a group of people prior to the shooting. During the argument, police said a person pulled out a weapon and shot the victim.

Police said they have no information about the shooter at this time.

The department is withholding the name of the victim pending notification of next of kin.
