Ventura man arrested for possession of stolen, illegal firearms while on probation

Ventura County Sheriff's Office

VENTURA, Calif. - Ventura County Sheriff's deputies arrested a Ventura man on Friday after locating several illegal firearms at his home.

Detectives assigned to the Sheriff's Gang Unit obtained information about a 61-year-old Ventura man in April indicating he was in possession of unlawfully obtained firearms and ammunition while on active probation. The sheriff's office said the man had previous felony convictions prohibiting him from owning or possessing any firearms or ammunition.

On Friday, April 30, detectives contacted the man at his home on the 1200 block of Winford Avenue. They then detained him and searched his residence per the terms of his probation.

During the search, detectives said they found a loaded Glock firearm that had been reported stolen from the City of Ventura as well as a loaded short-barreled AR-15 style rifle without a serial number. Deputies said the rifle had characteristics that classified it as an assault weapon per state law.

Based on the results of this search, the man was arrested for various firearms and ammunition possession charges and booked at the Pre-Trial Detention Facility where he is currently awaiting court proceedings.
