GUADALUPE, Calif. - The Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office is investigating after a man was shot at by police in Guadalupe.

The man was arrested Friday after Guadalupe police said he attempted to ram officers with a vehicle. One of the three officers involved opened fire on the suspect, police said.

None of the gunshots hit the suspect, according to police. Less-than-lethal rounds were also fired and the man was eventually taken into custody and booked for assault with a deadly weapon other than a firearm against a peace officer and obstructing a peace officer.

Detectives requested a bail enhancement due to the seriousness of this crime and the danger to the public. The bail increase was approved and the suspect is being held on $1,000,000 bail.

Officers said they encountered the 48-year-old man around 7 a.m. on 11th Street and Gularte Lane after receiving reports of a tire fire in the area. Police say the man, who lives nearby and is known to police from other incidents, appeared to be suffering from mental health issues.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing. The Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office will be handling the investigation.

The sheriff's office is investigating whether the man attempted to hit the officers with his vehicle prior to the shooting.

The man was not seriously hurt and no officers were injured. The man was booked into jail on unspecified charges, the sheriff's office said.
