Santa Maria Police arrest suspect in New Year’s Day stabbing

SANTA MARIA, Calif. -- Santa Maria Police arrested a man Friday in connection with a stabbing that occurred in Santa Maria New Year's morning.
Police said they arrested 18-year-old Eduardo Garcia Barrueta of Santa Maria.
Barrueta was booked into Santa Barbara County Jail for Attempted Murder and a Criminal Street Gang enhancement.
On Wednesday morning, officers were called to reports of several people fighting around 2:13 a.m. They said it happened in the area of Boone and Thornburg Streets.
Officers said they found two people with injuries. Both were taken to nearby hospitals and have since been released, according to a news release from the police department.
