Man arrested in Ventura for possession of a firearm by an addict
VENTURA, Calif. - A man was arrested during a traffic stop on Thursday for carrying a concealed firearm in his vehicle while addicted to a controlled substance.
27-year-old Jose Crespin from Ventura was driving in the area of Main Street and Emma Avenue when he was pulled over by a Ventura Patrol Officer.
The officer recognized Crespin from prior interactions and knew Crespin was driving on a suspended driver's license.
During the stop, the officer asked Crespin to exit his car and asked if there was anything illegal inside the vehicle.
Crespin admitted to having an unloaded gun in his backpack. The officer then investigated the vehicle and found the unloaded handgun, ammunition and drug paraphernalia.
A Drug Recognition Expert Officer was contacted to determine if Crespin was under the influence of an illegal substance.
Afterwards, Crespin was arrested for possession of a firearm by an addict, possession of ammunition by an addict, carrying a concealed firearm in a vehicle and being under the influence of a controlled substance.
No on was injured during this arrest.
Crespin was book at the Ventura County Jail.
