Joshua Christian Nunnes was charged Friday night for shoplifting at a Home Depot in Oxnard.

OXNARD, Calif. - The Oxnard Police Department received a call from loss prevention employees Friday evening reporting a shoplifting.

The Home Depot at 401 W. Esplanade Drive described a theft of power tools in progress.

The loss prevention employees recognized the suspect from prior thefts and watched him hide more store merchandise on his person.

Officers who were patrolling the Esplanade Shopping Center responded to the call and positioned themselves outside the store.

Not long after, suspect Joshua Nunnes, 32, exited the store after failing to pay for the merchandise he had.

Officers approached Nunnes who immediately discarded some of the stolen items before running through the parking lot.

The police chased Nunnes a short distance before taking him into custody.

The total value of the merchandise Nunnes had stolen was $420.

Nunnes was booked at the Ventura County Jail for theft, possession of drug paraphernalia and resisting arrest. He was released on citation Saturday morning.
