ATASCADERO, Calif. -- The Atascadero Police Department is investigating a crash that left a 12-year-old hurt.

Emergency crews responded to the vehicle versus pedestrian crash just after 8 a.m. Monday.

When officers got to the scene, they found a 12-year-old girl who was trying to cross El Camino Real from East Mall in a crosswalk.

A truck did not stop for the girl in the crosswalk and hit her.

The 12-year-old was taken to the hospital with moderate injuries.

Police say speed was a possible factor in the crash, but drugs and alcohol were not.

Officers are reminding drivers the speed limit is 25 MPH and be vigilant along that part of El Camino Real.

The area has a lot of pedestrian traffic during school hours.
