Central Coast Labor Council Kicks Off Holiday Weekend At Pioneer Park In Santa Maria

SANTA MARIA, Calif. (KEYT) - The Central Coast Labor Council is kicking off the long holiday weekend with its annual Labor Day Picnic at Pioneer Park in Santa Maria.

The event has grown over the years into a significant community networking hub bringing workers, representatives, educators, and their families together for a large barbecue.

Organizers say in addition to barbecue and ice cream, family entertainment is provided, including bounce houses and games for kids, and live performances including Righetti High School’s Ballet Folklorico.

Elected leaders and candidates for the three upcoming City Council seat races are also expected to bring their families along.

This weekend is the 142nd national Labor Day holiday, celebrating the adoption of the 40-hour work week we now consider standard.

The Labor Day Picnic at Pioneer Park serves as a massive joint gathering for all 75 affiliate unions comprising the Central Coast Labor Council across SLO, Santa Barbara, and Ventura counties.

Educators, service and healthcare workers, people in building and construction trades, agricultural workers, public safety and communications providers are all represented, as well as commercial entertainers.
