Adams Elementary briefly secured for a search for an erratic driver; Campus status is back to normal

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – Adams Elementary was secured briefly Thursday while a search for an erratic driver was conducted on campus by law enforcement.

The driver nor their vehicle were found during the search and normal campus activities resumed after a search of the campus shared the Santa Barbara Unified School District.

According to the Santa Barbara Police Department, a report was made to dispatchers stating that there was an erratic driver on Highway 101 had exited at Las Positas, pulled into the parking lot at Adams Elementary, and was last seen running from their vehicle and onto campus which resulted in a secure-in-place status at the school.

Officers responded to the school to conduct a protective sweep of the entire campus, but the vehicle nor the driver were located and the secure-in-place status was lifted explained the Santa Barbara Police Department.

Classes continued normally while the campus was secured and the search was conducted and there was no impact on school functions for the rest of the day shared the Santa Barbara Unified School District.

Santa Barbara Police confirmed that a review of surveillance footage from the school's parking lot found that the report was unfounded and the results of the search were provided to the school district.
