One dead, another with major injuries after car crash on Highway 101 northwest of Los Olivos

SANTA BARBARA COUNTY, Calif. – One person is dead and another has serious injuries after a vehicle went 75 feet over the side of northbound Highway 101 northwest of Los Olivos Monday.

Doug Palmer, a 74-year-old Santa Maria man, died from his injuries at the scene of the crash just past 12:30 p.m. while his 76-year-old wife Kathleen was airlifted via helicopter for her injuries to Cottage Hospital, per CHP.

The car travelled east of the roadway, down the dirt embankment and came to rest at the bottom of the embankment after overturning, according to the CHP.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation and those with more information should contact the Buellton CHP.
