KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (AP) — Singapore has executed a man for drug trafficking and is set to hang a woman on Friday. She will be the first female hanged in the city-state in 19 years. The new executions have prompted renewed calls for a halt to Singapore’s capital punishment. Transformative Justice Collective’s Kirsten Han says Mohammed Aziz Hussain was hanged at Singapore’s Changi Prison early Wednesday and has been buried. He was sentenced to death in 2018 for trafficking around 1.75 ounces of heroin. Human rights groups said Singaporean woman Saridewi Djamani will be executed Friday. She was sentenced in 2018 for trafficking around 1 ounce of heroin. Han said the last woman known to have been hanged in Singapore was hairdresser Yen May Woen in 2004.
