Santa Maria business prepare for Cinco de Mayo celebration
SANTA MARIA, Calif. – Businesses in the Santa Maria Valley are preparing for Thursday night’s Cinco de Mayo celebration.
Blast 825 in Orcutt looks forward to days like Cinco de Mayo.
“We just love the atmosphere,” said bartender Briana Sanchez. “You know, being here with all the customers. we do get like a great group of people normally.”
Beverage director Austin Hedges said he prepared for this day by stocking up with food and drinks.
“It can get quite busy, but luckily we have a lot of seating indoors and outdoors,” said Hedges. “We got plenty of seating.”
On top of Cinco de Mayo, some people are out to celebrate this day and other celebrations simply to have a good time and enjoy it with their loved ones.
Cinco de Mayo commemorates the Mexican army’s victory over France in the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862. It is not Mexico's Independence Day like some people may think.
In La Unica Taqueria in Santa Maria, workers said they are expecting a busy night.
“We probably sell, we normally sell like two to three days, so it is pretty good,” said worker Juan Carrillo.
Every year, workers at the taqueria look forward to this day, all to see the smiles on their customer’s faces.
“What we normally do, we do like three to four times what we normally prepare in the meats, vegetables, and our taquitos- all that. just have a lot of it,” said Carrillo.
