Planned burn takes place near Los Olivos

Air Pollution Control District

SANTA BARBARA COUNTY, Calif. - If you saw smoke near Los Olivos Wednesday, not to worry.

The Santa Barbara County Fire Department says it was a planned burn.

They're holding fire training on Figueroa Mountain Road, burning grassland and black sage scrub.

This is for the certification of instructors to teach a firing operations class, and they are training new firefighters.

Planned fires burn less intensely than wildfires. They can also help prevent the spread of wildfires, and reduce impacts to watersheds that can results in soil loss.

The planned burn is scheduled to end at 6 p.m. Thursday.
