National Fire Prevention Week 2020 highlights kitchen safety
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. — California is in the middle of the worst wildfire season on record. Over four million acres have burned around the state. Five of California’s six largest wildfires have started in August or September. So firefighters will tell you fire safety should be high on everyone’s minds.
The country uses Fire Prevention Week to highlight the dangers of fire, especially in homes. This year Fire Prevention Week is from October 4 to 10. This year’s theme “Serve Up Fire Safety in the Kitchen”.
Santa Barbara County Fire Department spokesman Captain Daniel Bertucelli said, normally his firefighters would do presentations in classrooms to promote fire safety. However, this year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, their fire safety message will be digital.
National fire officials say cooking is the leading cause of fires and fire injures in the home. And unattended cooking is the leading cause of kitchen fires. For more information about cooking safety to prevent a home fire visit Fire Prevention Week’s website.
