BLM protest organizer Tianna Arata appears virtually for court, arraignment moved again

091720 ARATA HEARING SLO COURT

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - Tianna Arata, a Black Lives Matter protest organizer, appeared via Zoom for her court appearance Thursday morning in San Luis Obispo.

The 20-year-old did not enter a plea and her arraignment was pushed back to October 22. Arata's defense team is entering a demurrer, which is an attempt to dismiss a claim or claims in the charges.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic most court proceedings are taking place virtually.

The college student is facing several misdemeanor counts for a July protest that, at one point, blocked traffic on Highway 101.
