Man suffers severe leg injury after boating accident at Lake Nacimiento

MONTEREY COUNTY, Calif. - A boating accident caused a man to lose one of his legs Sunday afternoon.

North County Deputies and Monterey County Park Rangers responded to the boating incident at Lake Nacimiento.

San Luis Obispo Deputy Carreiro was the first emergency responder on scene.

Deputy Carreiro immediately applied a tourniquet and began treating the patient along with Monterey County Park Rangers until medical personnel arrived and took over care.

According to CAL FIRE SLO, emergency crews responded around 5:30 p.m. to reports of someone in need of medical attention near the Heritage Ranch boat ramp.

San Luis Obispo officials said the man's leg got caught in a boat propeller while he was out on the water.

The patient was airlifted to a local hospital for further treatment.
