Second Lompoc prison inmate dies after being hospitalized for COVID-19
LOMPOC, Calif. - A 75-year-old inmate from the Lompoc prison who tested positive for COVID-19 died on Wednesday, according to a news release from the Bureau of Prisons.
On Wednesday, April 8, inmate Jimmie Lee Houston reported to Health Services staff at the Satellite Prison Camp (SPC) in Lompoc.
He was evaluated by institution medical staff and transported to a local hospital for treatment. While at the local hospital, Houston tested positive for COVID-19.
On April 11, his condition declined and he was placed on a ventilator. On May 6, Houston, who had long-term, pre-existing medical conditions, was pronounced dead by hospital staff.
Houston had been in custody at the Federal Correctional Complex since February 16, 2018, according to the Federal Bureau of Prisons.
He was sentenced in the District of Alaska to a 10 year sentence for Possessing a Controlled Substance with Intent to Distribute, Possessing a Firearm with Obliterated Serial Number, and Criminal Forfeiture Allegation.
Another inmate from the federal prison died on Friday April 17.
