Popular ‘Pliny the Younger’ beer to be served at local Eureka! Burger restaurants
SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - A rare and popular Bay Area beer will soon be served on the Central and South Coasts.
Russian River Brewing Company teamed up with Eureka! Burger locations in San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara to offer its wildly popular "Pliny the Younger" Triple IPA beer.
The 16th annual beer release just wrapped up in Sonoma County and was met with massive crowds, as it has been in past years. Fans have been known to camp out on sidewalks in the days leading up to the beer release. This year, customers were told to plan for wait times of up to six hours. The demand is so high, the brewery limits people to just three 10-ounce pours of the beer.
Some lucky Central Coast residents will get a chance to try it out themselves as part of a special release at Eureka! on Tuesday.
The San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara restaurants will start pouring the beer at 3 p.m. Tickets are required. As of Monday afternoon, the San Luis Obispo event was sold out, but there were still tickets available in Santa Barbara.
"Pliny the Younger" is known for its high alcohol content. Brewers estimate this year's batch is 10.25 percent.
The brewery says thousands of people from around the world visit each year to try to get a taste of the beer.
On Monday, Eureka! is also pouring "Pliny the Elder," Russian River's flagship beer.
