It’s raining it’s pouring!
SANTA MARIA, Calif.-
Highway 101 and Betteravia traffic is flowing well-considering rain conditions.
The temperature dropped significantly around 3pm today and we saw the gray clouds come out.
Then came the heavy raindrops.
Rain drops that some Santa Maria residents were happy to see.
“I absolutely love the rain, my wife and I grew up on the east coast. It rained a lot. Especially in the wintertime. Out here it never rains so everything gets so brown,” said resident Jason Hollyfield
The Santa Maria Fire department is providing sand for residents who may want to put sandbags around their homes as the rain continues.
“We have five different locations around the city, we listed those on our Facebook page today. And we do have piles of sand there. The bags are not provided for residents but they can get the bags at local retailers. We have listed those on our Facebook page also,” said Mike Farmer of the Santa Maria Fire Department.
For anyone on the road… CHP reminds drivers to slow down and keep a safe distance from the car in front of you.
“It's getting dark earlier so visibility is not great, its not ideal so keep your headlights on so maybe drive a little bit slower than usual. Don't bob and we around too much,” said resident Amir.
Be careful because nature mixed with road conditions can make conditions very dangerous.
“You slow down when it does rain out here, the eclipses trees out here have an oil that comes out of them when it rains and it makes roads really slick, ” said Hollyfield.
Officials also warn drivers to never assume the other driver is paying attention.
They say use extra caution.
And, for those who love the rain.
“Be careful and enjoy the rain while you got it,” said Hollyfield
CHP also reminds drivers to turn off their cruise control in the rain for safety reasons.
