Suspect in Santa Maria shooting arrested

Alberto Fidel Reyes
Santa Maria Police Department
Alberto Fidel Reyes, 38, of Santa Maria.

UPDATE: Alberto Fidel Reyes was charged with attempted murder and with assault with a semi-automatic firearm.

Deputy District Attorney John DeChaine said that it is alleged that Reyes personally used a firearm in the commission of the crime and that the shooting resulted in great bodily injury.

However, though Reyes has been charged, he is presumed to be innocent until proven otherwise in a court of law.

Reyes pled not guilty to these charges and denied the special allegations.

DeChaine said Reyes waived time for a preliminary hearing, in other words, he chose not to have a speedy trial.

Reyes will be in Department 7 of the Superior Court in Santa Maria on Dec. 16 in order to set up his preliminary hearing.
