CAYUCOS, Calif. - Firefighters burned about 100 acres of brush as part of a planned burn Monday in Cayucos.

The planned burn started around 7 a.m. in the central part of Estero Bluffs State Park, between Cayucos and Villa Creek.

CAL FIRE says the point of the burn is to lower the risk of future, larger wildfires.

Firefighters say the last time the area was burned was a decade ago, in 2009.

The burn finished before 11 a.m., but firefighters stayed on scene for another hour to mop up and monitor the area.
