Gas line rupture forces shut down in Santa Maria while crews repair road

Overnight emergency repairs to a broken natural gas line in Santa Maria forced a road to be shutdown.

The repairs were taking place at the intersection of Betteravia Road and Thornburg Street on Wednesday night.

One block of Thomburg Street between Betteravia Road and Dal Porto Lane will remain closed until road repairs are finished, according to Santa Maria Public Works.

Repairs are expected to be completed by Thursday afternoon.

Public works crews were forced to excavate to reach the broken gas line, forcing a closure between Betteravia Road between Broadway and Depot Street from about 7:00 p.m. Wednesday to 4:30 a.m. Thursday.

Rain and runoff have slowed down the repair of the roadway, according to Public Works officials.
